About the Role

We are recruiting a Test Automation Engineer to join a leading UK banking group's Retail Lending and Retail Digital business, supporting its Overdrafts team.

You will work on a service that helps bank colleagues support customers in managing their overdrafts. The service also supports automated communications to customers, with much of the work focused on systems, integrations and the quality of the underlying technology.

Technology upgrades have been underway for some time, creating a substantial testing backlog and ongoing work ahead. This is an opportunity to contribute to a long-term programme within an established team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, write and maintain automated tests using Java and Selenium.
  • Test REST APIs and system integrations using Postman or equivalent tools.
  • Build and strengthen robust, reusable automated regression test suites.
  • Plan testing activities, identify risks and prioritise testing effectively.
  • Support testing for system upgrades, data remediation and application changes.
  • Carry out end-to-end, integration and manual testing where required.
  • Investigate defects, communicate findings and work with colleagues to resolve issues.
  • Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders, including teams involved in Customer Borrowing.
  • Identify opportunities to improve testing tools, frameworks and approaches, making recommendations where appropriate.

Technology and Development

The current technology stack includes Java, Selenium and Postman/REST APIs.

The team expects to move towards AWS over the next one to two years. You do not need previous AWS experience to be considered.

The team is open to alternative tools and approaches where you can demonstrate a clear benefit.

You may also gain exposure to loans and cross-domain projects, with potential future involvement in credit cards and mortgages.

Why Apply?

  • A full-time, permanent opportunity with a salary of up to £50,000.
  • A 10% pension contribution.
  • Hybrid working, with two days per week in the Edinburgh office.
  • The opportunity to strengthen automation and regression testing within a long-term technology programme.
  • Scope to influence testing approaches and contribute ideas for improvement.
  • An opportunity to bring your automation testing expertise from any industry.
